Tranzac Irish music session

Back to main page.

It's taking me so long to learn tunes! Isn't there a shortcut?

No, sadly.

The secret: PRACTICE.

I work at home and keep a whistle near my computer to practice during breaks. For those in more noise-sensitive environments, you'll have to practice at home. I posted a question on TheSession.org about where people practice, and one person said his favourite practice spot was in the car during red lights or bad traffic. (Warning: don't play whistle while driving, no matter how keen you are on tune-learning)

OTHER TIPS:

If your session allows it (but be sure to ask first), take a recording device. I've found my Tranzac recordings are immensely helpful for practising with.

Ask people at your session for suggestions.

Try practising with the BBC's online The Virtual Session.

Buy a tunes book that comes with a CD. Some suggestions:

  • L.E. McCullough's CDs/DVD: I have the book/CD package and found it useful.
  • Others to be added eventually. Suggestions welcome (send to Debbie, e-mail at bottom of page).

Take lessons from someone who plays at your session. Get recommendations, ask around.
